‘Laid back’ test match?

PA Wellington Wellington police are confident a “laid back” atmosphere will prevail at the Australia-New Zealand test cricket mqtch starting at the Basin Reserve today. “We’ll have sufficient staff on to handle any crowd disorder but we don’t think there will be any,” said Wellington’s police city division commander, Superintendent Graeme Wilson.

“We think it will be pretty laid back.” Mr Wilson said yesterday that five-day tests tended to be more lowkey affairs than one-day internationals. Security guards were expected to be on hand to prevent cricket fans taking liquor into the Basin Reserve. Mr Wilson said it would not be the job of the police to stop liquor going through the gates.
