Evidence of ancient tribe found
NZPA-AP Peking Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of an ancient tribe, the Shanrong, which lived near Peking 2500 years ago and made use of a sacrifical altar, the Xinhua News Agency reported. The report said that the three-month dig on the city’s northern outskirts
led to the discovery of 107 tombs and 1000 artefacts. Skeletal remains indicated that all the tribesmen died before reaching the age of 50. The altar of 15 large boulders in an oval shape around a taller rock may have been used for sacrifices honouring ancestors or neighbouring mountains, the report said.
