Wind mars trials
A blustery north-west wind ruined the Ashburton trotting trials but, while only two horses qualified, place-getters in their heats were also under the required time even if not by a sufficient margin to gain a CO rating. A feature of later racing was the easy win by Samson in the C2 and faster pace. Paul Young got him well placed early, and he never drove him out Samson held off Quiet Touch, which came from well back, and Rapa Eagle, which was late clearing a passage.
