Shell Agriculture Introduces an Exciting new Insecticide
Friday 21 February... TODAY SHELL AGRICULTURE LAUNCHES ITS NEWEST PRODUCT
COUNTET2OG
Shell Agriculture have traditionally been innovators in the soil insecticide market and 1986 will see Counter 20G added to their range of products as the flagship. Counter is registered in New Zealand for the control of grass grub in newly sown pasture, cereals and fodder crops. Counter 20G is a systemic insecticide which is applied down the drill spout at sowing and can be mixed with the seed or the fertiliser. The effect is to provide a ring of insecticide around the seed and the
young plant as it grows. What is Counter? Counter 20G contains the active ingredient Terbufos formulated as a granule. It has been developed by the American Cyanamid Company to become the leading soil insecticide in the USA and in turn has achieved widespread usage throughout the world in a large number of crops which require protection from soil pests.
Because of its consistently outstanding performance under
widely diverse agronomic circumstances Counter has earned its way to the top in many highly competitive world markets. How Counter Works Counter has excellent initial and residual activity. The protective action of Counter is two-fold; as it dissolves in the soil water it kills soil pests in the vicinity of the granule and, being systemic it will be taken up by the emerging roots and transported to other parts of the plant.
Counter and the Environment Because Counter 20G is biodegraded in plants, animals and soil it means that neither active ingredient Terbufos nor the metabolites accumulate in the food chain or in the environment. By using Counter no post harvest restrictions enable rotation to any other crop after harvest and the stubble can be grazed immediately.
Plant Safety Counter 20G does not effect the seed ger-
mination nor injure the establishing seedling. It can be applied banded or in the furrow with no crop injury. The active ingredient of Counter does not leach within the soil. The chemical activity is retained around the seed and the seedling during establishment giving prolonged protection against grass grub attack.
