Hadlee keeps prize car
PA Wellington The controversy over Richard Hadlee’s $53,000 car has been solved — Hadlee will keep it. The New Zealand cricket team had a meeting yesterday and the skipper, Jeremy. Coney, said Hadlee gave the car to the team fund but the
players gifted it back to the champion all-rounder. "I’m thrilled to keep the car; it was a great gesture by the guys. But it’s all over now and I, want to concentrate on the test,” Hadlee said last evening. Coney said the controversy was over for good and he did not want any
further comment with the first test tomorrow. Hadlee won the car in Australia as Cricketer of the Year encompassing the two test series there and the World Series Cup one-day tests. He was virtually assured of winning the car after his 33 test wicket haul before Christmas.
