The Richardson approach

Sir, —Upon reading your feature article on Ruth Richardson and her back-to-basics, nononsense economic and political beliefs my heart beat with excitement. It was as if a bright light had finally begun to show at the end of a long bureaucratic tunnel, a. tunnel made even darker, dimmer and damper by the former Prime Minister, who, thank goodness, the National Party is not following into oblivion any more. I congratulate Miss Richardson and her understanding of the great potential New Zealand society and its citizens possess if allowed enough freedom from red tape, bureaucratic whims and high taxes. Away with this timid cradle-to-the-grave small-mind-edness that has been weakening the strong and weakening the weak of this brave little country for too long.—Yours, etc.,

ROBIN BOOTH. February 18, 1986.
