Obituary Mr K.G. Fraser

PA Auckland Mr Kinnear George Fraser, a prominent Auckland businessman and chairman of the New Zealand Telethon Trust, has died in Auckland, aged 70. Mr Fraser was founder chairman of South Pacific Television from its inception in mid-1974 until it went out of existence at the end of 1976, and a member of the Broadcasting Council. In 1976, he joined the Broadcasting Corporation and served as a member of the board until 1979. Mr Fraser was the president of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association from 1974 until 1976 and was a council member at the time of his death.

He was the chairman of the Employment Advisory Committee and a former vice-president of the

Auckland Employers’ Association. Mr Fraser was awarded a C.B.E. in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June last year. He was educated at Wellington College and Victoria University and the London School of Economics. During World War 11, he served in the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy before joining the Prime Minister’s Office as a research officer. In 1950 he joined Fletcher Holdings and became an associate director. Since the formation of Fletcher Challenge he had served the company as a consultant. One of his main concerns was the Fletcher art collection, the largest private collection in New Zealand. Mr Fraser is survived by his wife.
