Fire toll of 30 feared
NZPA-Reuter Rio de Janeiro Up to 30 people were feared killed yesterday when a fire swept through
a 13-storey office-block in the centre of Rio de Janeiro. At least three of the victims threw themselves
from upper-storey windows in an attempt to escape the blaze, which broke out at lunch-time. Early reports by fire
officials said six people had died but rescue workers said they believed many more bodies would be found.
