Pool inspected
PA Hamilton Hamilton’s Centennial Pool has been inspected by officials from Auckland’s 1990 Commonwealth Games organising committee, and their verdict is expected by the end of this month. The Mayor of Hamilton, Ross Jansen, said yesterday that he had received a delegation on Monday from the committee headed by the associate director of venues, Bob Lorimer, whose task is to recommend Games locations in and around Auckland. Monday’s visit was in
response to several invitations from the Hamilton City Council which sees its pool as a likely venue for Games swimming events. Excavation has begun in Henderson for a new Games pool complex, but Hamilton believes it still has a case to put. Mr Jansen said he expected to hear back from the organising committee by the end of the month when Mr Lorimer would report back on all Games venues. Describing the visit as “positive,” Mr Jansen said the visitors appeared to regard Hamilton’s pool as “an Excellent facility.” -
