Fickle winds stop fleet
PA Auckland Fickle winds ended hopes of starting the world OK Dinghy championships off Milford Beach, Auckland yesterday. The 53-boat fleet left the beach as scheduled for the 10.30 a.m. start, but the light, shifting winds made it impossible for organisers of the Bank
of New Zealand championships to set a course. After drifting in breezes of no more than two knots for almost three hours the race was called off. It will be held on Friday, which was to have been a rest day. Little change in wind strength is forecast for today’s two races.
