$8.8M tender claim

PA Wellington The hearing of legal action by the Crown against a Government stock defaulter, Rakiura Holdings, Ltd, has been set down for March 12.

Proceedings by the At-torney-General on behalf of the Minister of Finance to recover SB.BM the Government lost when it had to retender the SIOOM of stock which Rakiura defaulted on last month were set in motion late last week.

The man behind the $lOOO merchant bank, Mr Brian Alexander, has been out of New Zealand since before the default was notified on January 16. At that time it was stated that he would be back in New Zealand on Monday, but the Rakiura Holdings company secretary, a Wellington accountant, Mr Philip Verry, said Mr Alexander was still overseas. Mr Verry said he had been talking to Mr Alexander, but was not sure of his movements. He could not disclose Mr Alexander’s whereabouts.
