Power predictions out of step?
PA Auckland New Zealand energy planners have been accused of being out of step with the rest of the world in continuing to predict relentless increases in power demand. Dr John Peet, of the University of Canterbury, told the Institution of Professional Engineers at their annual conference in Auckland that in many countries economic growth was no longer thought to be linked Oh increased demand for en-
ergy. Yet New Zealand energy officials continued to plan their new power stations with little thought to improving the efficiency of existing supply, he said. Dr Peet accused them of clinging to the myths of the past in predicting an energy future which he said should be taken out/ of the hands of bureaucrats and institutions and opened up to public choice.
