Teachers meet Minister
PA Wellington Secondary teacher representatives will meet the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, this morning for further discussions on their salary claim. The Cabinet policy committee had been expected to make a decision on the claim yesterday for consideration by the Cabinet on Monday, . but a spokesman for Mr Marshall’s office said no final decision had yet been made.
Mr Marshall reported on negotiations over the last week with the PostPrimary Teachers’ Association, and new proposals would go to the Cabinet on Monday, the spokesman said. The Cabinet last week deferred a decision on a $5l million claim negotiated earlier between the association and the Education Services Committee in the hope that a lower figure could be agreed upon.
