Road race to Renner

Peter Renner (Bascik New Brighton) won the Peter Woodham Real Estate skm road running race at North Hagley Park last evening. The Olympic steeplechase representative won in a time of 14min 16s, to beat the 1985 Canterbury 10,000 m track champion, Warren Sheddan (Olympic). The men’s points leader, John Gamblin (Ashburton), was third and with one race to run cannot be beaten in the series, while Donna McCartney (Bascik New Brighton) made it four in a row in the women’s section. Bill Malloch won the veteran men’s section and retains his lead in that section. The veteran women’s record holder, Prue Taylor, beat the points leader, Judith Stewart, to make the final race on

February 25 the deciding one for that section, with three contenders very close on points. About 330 runners took part in a skm fun run and 135 finished the race for registered runners.
