Consistent Montrose in line for win at Addington this evening
She beat all but Quiet Touch in the Standardbred Breeders’ Stakes, recording Imin 58.25, and two nights later finished third to Skipper Dale over the same distance in Imin 59.75. Her only start since then resulted in a third over 3200 m behind Chipaluck on the same course on January 22.
from lan Cameron’s Fernside team. He will also be represented by Aran Blaze, a winner over 2300 m at the Blenheiem meeting last Saturday, and Saucy Star, a winner over 2600 m at Addington on February 7. Both will be prospects once more. Lady El, on trial for the Inter-Dominion series in Brisbane in April, has to overcome an awkward
draw of No. 1 on the second line. This is unlikely to keep her out of the money in spite of her somewhat disappointing fifth in the free-for-all won by Malaz on January 3 and her seventh to Roydon Glen later last month. The talented four-year-old, Loveridge, will also be in demand. He finished a fair second to the inform Master Mood at For-
bury at his latest start. He has drawn No. 1 and should be able to secure a good run throughout. There will be’ solid support, too, for Smarty Pants and Chipaluck, two well-performed four-year-old mares. Quiet Touch looks almost a racecourse certainty in the second leg, the Coupland Pies Pace.
She had her first start since her Imin 57.8 s Standardbred Breeders’ Stakes victory of January 1 when she raced over 2000 m last Friday. She made a late bid to run Hamy’s Pride to half a length and should be all the better for that run. She has drawn No. 2 at the barrier and it is difficult to imagine her being beaten.
Montrose is one of three runners in the event
By G. K. YULE Two placings over one mile at Addington Raceway last month point to Montrose being a leading contender for honours in the Ashby Ferguson Pace at the New Brighton Club’s meeting this evening.
t The Morrinsville threes year-old, American Style, the winner of six races, is j well above average in r ability. He won twice at j Hutt Park last month and i in spite of the rise in class i in this field, he should 1 make a bold bld. Late Lustre, so unlucky t lately, Jack Hammer, Rotary Motor and Jovial Jan > are others capable of adding interest to the finish.
