Kerr and Busuttin have bright prospects

Dave Kerr and Paddy Busuttin have invariably dominated proceedings at Riccarton in recent seasons and today’s Canterbury Jockey Club meeting should not be any different.

Kerr appears to have a. mortgage on the $22,500 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes with the glamour mare, Canterbury Belle, while the highly-promising juvenile filly, Crystal Brook, also looks an oddson prospect to extend her unbeaten sequence to three in The Carbine. The Riccarton trainer will have other worthwhile contenders in the promising three-year-olds, Mr Magoo (Post Handicap) and Elope (the Dallington), the latter being a

form runner for the first leg of the T.A.B. treble.

Some of the team of the Foxton trainer, Paddy Busuttin, which are engaged today, are likely to remain at Riccarton as Busuttin continues to establish a southern training base.

Busuttin intends to have the horses kept at the Riccarton course until he takes over Bevan Laming’s establishment, when that trainer moves to Brisbane at the end of March.

The leading hope for the stable today will be Coming Home in The Racecourse Hill over 1200 m. The Dimante D three-year-old ended a consistent run of form as a summer two-year-old by winning at the Ashhurst meeting just over a year

ago and has not raced since.

He has had a trials run recently, however, and should be ready for this assignment Pearl of the Sea (The Carbine), Rega Lee (Darfield Handicap), Ten Winks (South Island Thoroughbred Stakes), Dreams Come True (The Dallington) and' Gritain (Halswell Handicap) are others from the Busuttin stable engaged today. Additional riding engagements for today’s meeting at Riccarton today are:— R. Montgomery: Georgina Girl, Puffasmoke, Native One, Golden Kuda, Taxtale. M. Thornley: Borrisokane. A. Robinson: Ceresia, Seve, Schweppeshire Bay.

D. Frye: Lucky. D. Wadley: Midnight Spy. C. O’Brien: My Name’s Good, Anzonetta. G. Foote: Passez Vite.

R. Bruce: Sailing Free, Kyolic. J. Woledge (not J. Dowling): Nuclear Rocket T. Matthews: Little Scrubber, Aussie Bound. B. Pelling: Miss Tiger Lil. W. Satherley: Aegean Princess. P. Richards: Keen Pell. C. Bain (not G. Taylor): Ahead of Time. L. Cooks: Eureka Lad.
