U.K. lamb values steady

Domestic beef, lamb and pork prices eased slightly over the week, but lamb values have now steadied and are expected to hold at present levels for the next two to three weeks. Final sales figures for New Zealand lamb last week were good, attributable to wideranging support from the retailing sector for the board’s promotional campaign. Agents expect this ■ sales momentum to continue through to mld-February. On Smithfield market this week, New Zealand PL grade lambs were quoted at 64.5 to 65.5 p a lb for new season’s lambs (5NZ3.75 to SNZ3.BI a kg), and 59p tb 60p a lb for ■ old season’s iambs (5NZ3.43 to $NZ3.49 a kg). Average prices increased by US3c a lb on the Ameri- . can imported manufacturing beef market this week. The main reason for the increase js a slackening in domestic supplies as much of the midwest is under-snow. •. New Zealand cow beef averaged US93c a lb. c.i.f. (SNZIBI a kg), up US3c, while bull beef moved up 1c to US97C a lb c.i.f. (5NZ3.97 a kg)-
