Table tennis trouncings
The joint leaders, the Riccarton and Avonside No. 2 teams, both trounced their opponents by 12 matches to nil without losing a set when summer inter-club table tennis resumed in Christchurch this week.
The only unbeaten player in the competition, Riccarton’s Ling Nan Ming, supported by the Canterbury champion, John Armstrong, and Alan Alabaster, were far too strong for a depleted Linwood team. Avonside encountered a little more resistance, but Michael Warren, Brian Wilson, and Bert Thompson proved too steady for Riccarton 1.
The Avonside No. 1 team held its close third placing by confortably shutting out Avonside No. 3. Darrin and Karl Entwistle, together with John Richards, dropped just one set on the way to their 12-nil victory.
