November retail sales higher
PA Wellington Retail sales for November were $1943.6 million, an increase of $123.2 million or 6.8 per cent more than in November 1984, says the Government Statistician. When adjusted for seasonal changes in buying patterns and differing numbers of trading days in each month, sales in
November were up 3.5 per cent on those of October and up 10.3 per cent on November 1984. Main contributors to the November increase were grocers and supermarkets whose turnover rose $38.7 million, and liquor outlets and licensed accommodation premises which showed a $2O million increase.
The largest percentage increases came from chemists 32.2 per cent, accommodation premises, 22.6 per cent, and restaurants and takeaway shops 20 per cent. Store types showing a decrease included automotive, fuel and repairs establishments and household appliance stores.
