21 killed in Mexican air crash

NZPA-AP Los Mochis An Aero California airliner carrying 21 people crashed yesterday at the fog-covered airport of Los Mochis, in Mexico, killing all those aboard. An airline spokeswoman said that there were no survivors. It was a DC3 flying

from Ciudad Constitution in Mexico to Los Mochis. “It burst into flames and from the air you could see the tail section was separated and it looked like the plane was totally destroyed,” said an Associated Press correspondent, Cam Rossie, who was flying above the

Los Mochis airport where the plane crashed, in a small plane. Another spokesman for Aero California said all aboard were Mexican citizens. He said that the plane had crashed because of lack of visibility. The international airport in Los Mochis was

closed because of the fog. The pilot tried to land 18km away at a smaller airport, now used only for agricultural planes. An Aero California employee said the airport where the plane crashed had been closed to commercial flights for at least five years.
