‘Unknown’ N.Z. film proves big success
PA Wellington The film “Mr Wrong” is doing well for its makers, Gaylene Preston and Robyn Laing. The film, which was not given a commercial release in New Zealand, is into its fourteenth successful week in Auckland and opens again in Wellington today. Ms Preston said they were amazed at its success.
Firm contracts have also been signed overseas, including a theatrical release in Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Finland
and India, and a 50-city release in West Germany. The film opens in Los Angeles for an American commercial release at the end of February. The name has been changed to “Dark of the Night.” “Mr Wrong” was too negative a name for them, says Ms Preston.
A television sale has also been made to the 8.8. C. and to East Germany.
"Mr Wrong” will have its chance at New Zealand commercial theatres when it is part of a film festival in March.
