Escaper caught
A man who escaped from Paparua Prison four weeks ago has been caught near Motueka. Phillip Edward Galbraith was found by the police in a tobacco field on a firm at Riwaka. He had been working on the farm under a false name and had dyed his hair. Galbraith, aged 21, escaped from a work party in the prison grounds on January 2. He had been
jailed on charges of receiving, and was awaiting trail on charges related to the armed robbery of Woolworths’ Bishopdale supermarket in November. He appeared in the District Court at Nelson on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody to Christchurch, where he will appear in the District Court on February 4, charged with escaping.
