Rapa Eagle fastest
Only small fields took part in the Ashburton trotting work-outs on Thursday afternoon. In spite of ideal conditions, few horses went for times. The best time, 3min 14s for the 2400 m, went to Rapa Eagle after the last 800 m in close to even time for Simon Adlam.
Results (all 2400 m) were:—
Unqualified trot (two starters): Bay Wood, C. A. White, 1; Smile Over, L. M. Bebbington, 2. Time: 3:41.
Unqualified pace, heat one (six starters): Flaming Arrow, W. Dickson, 1; Quiet Skipper, L. F. O’Reilly, 2; Patrick, S. Adlam, 3. Time: 3:21. Heat two (seven starters): Bobco, D. J. Townley, 1; Sir Avon, J. L. Ferguson, 2; Rio Boy, T. Clarke, 3. Time: 3:18.8.
CO and faster pace (10 starters): Rapa Eagle, 50m, S. Adlam, 1; Worthy Adios (T.), 50, D. J. Townley, 2; Drydel Del, It, R. G. Geddes, 3. Time: 3:14. CO and faster trot (seven starters): Evander Lad, It, P. G. O’Reilly jun., 1; Armadale Cloud, It, R. M. Cameron, 2; Count Blaze, 30, J. L. Ferguson, 3. Time: 3:26.
Two-year-olds (four starters): Tina Tact, R. M. Cameron, 1; Sharvid Minstrel, T. Clarke, 2; Clifton Lady, D. J. Townley, 3. Time: 3:24.2.
