Courier Bay big attraction at Taranaki

Special correspondent New Plymouth

The three-year-old star, Courier Bay, will undoubtedly be the major attraction at the Taranaki Jockey Club’s meeting at New Plymouth today. The gelding has won three of his four starts to date and meets a small field today in the Schweppes Handicap. Courier Bay won at Wanganui at his debut and then at New Plymouth on Boxing Day. He

could only manage third on an unsuitable soft track at Stratford at New Year. i ,

However, he returned to winning form in brilliant style with a' win in the Wellington Stakes at Trentham a fortnight ago. At the New Plymouth

track on Wednesday, Courier Bay sped over 600 m in a crack 355. His odds today will be extremely short. Strawberry Blaze could score a home track win in the first leg of the T.A.B. double. She was a good third at Hawera last Saturday and was successful at Stratford for the time before.

Big Talk failed last time out but is much better than that

Princess Regal ran fifth against a star-studded field at Trentham and ranks highly here. Hayleen is trained on the tack and is a big lightweight chance.
