Cost of living

Sir, — We are told that grocery prices are dropping. I would like to know where and what items are getting cheaper. Basic things such as meat, milk, butter, bread, tea and sugar have all gone up in price, fruit and vegetables are marked up sometimes 500 per cent to the detriment of market gardeners. Other household items for cleaning etc. are just too expensive to be used daily, electricity, rates, post office charges, insurances etc., and bus fares escalate, and we are told not to ask for unrealistic wage increases or benefit and pension rises. This is not a Labour Government, as promised. The rich few can survive, the middle classes emigrate, and we are left to suffer, as we did for 10 years under Muldoon. — Yours, etc.,

R. DOWER. January 29, 1986.
