Bright sun remembered

Emigrating to New Zealand from Scotland in the 192#s was a high point in life for Mrs Margaret Lindsay, of Christchurch, who is 102today. Mrs Lindsay, who lives at the Windermere Home, said that when she, her husband and two children left Edinburgh that summer they had been told to expect cold weather when they arrived. “U said they didn’t knoWK what mid-winter

was,” she said of her arrival in Christchurch. “It was a beautiful, crisp, frosty morning, with the sun shining brightly.” Canterbury’s flatness and open spaces contrasted sharply with Edinburgh’s dark stone buildings, but the Lindsay family QtffcHy settled in St Afjbns,

where they lived nearly 50 years. Mrs Lindsay has three daughters and a son, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She said she enjoyed knitting but found reading difficult as her eyesight had worsened. There was no magic formula for living to be 102, but people ought to remember that everyone was different and life was what you made it, she said.
