Royal clothing preference

By

ROBIN CHARTERIS

London Expect to see the Queen wearing natural fibre clothes when she visits New Zealand next month. She favours cotton, silk and woollen clothes over synthetics.

She will make her own choice of garments to bring with her, mixing a selection of new clothes with a few favourite items worn before, said a Buckingham Palace ’ press spokesman. As usual, there will be a range of Royal hats to shield her complexion from the southern summer sun.

With a four-day visit to Nepal preceding the New Zealand portion of the tour, a variety of outfits for all climatic conditions has to be considered. The clothes will be

packed in trunks and carried aboard the Royal aircraft, looked after by two 'of the Queen’s dressers throughout the tour.

Other personal assistants to accompany her will be two ladies-in-wait-ing, her private secretary and an assistant, a press secretary and a personal doctor.

The possible late arrival of the Royal yacht Britannia, which has been engaged in rescue duties off Aden but has now resumed its voyage to New Zealand, should not cause problems for the Royal party, said the spokesman.

Alternative accommodation arrangements involving Government Houses in Auckland and Wellington will be made if necessary.
