Prince’s appeal leads to study

NZPA-Reuter London The Royal Institute of British Architects has said that it will set up a study group to Investigate Britain’s decaying inner cities because of an appeal from Prince Charles. The Prince has expressed concern about inner-city violence and last month asked the insti-

tute to form a group to seek a solution.

The institute said it hoped to have bankers, lawyers, representatives of financial Institutions, insurance companies, and members of the public in

a group as part of a committee to study community and urban affairs. Prince Charles became embroiled in a political row in October when he was quoted as saying that riots in Britain’s streets had been a “cry from the heart” from poor areas and urged more money be spent there.

The comment was interpreted as a criticism of

Mrs Thatcher’s Conservative Government, which said that the riots were the result of increasing crime that must be stamped out.
