Public Notices . x North Canterbury Catchment Board & Regional Water Board DISTURBANCE OF LAND SURFACES AND VEGETATION CLEARANCE PORT HILLS AND LYTTELTON BOROUGH NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 34 of the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Amendment Act 1959, to occupiers of land within the. area delineated on Plan M/422/3 Map 1 (comprising the Borough of Lyttelton and parts of Heathcote and Paparua Counties) and within the area delineated on Plan M/ 422/3 Map 2 (comprising parts of the Borough of Lyttelton, Christchurch City, Heathcote and Paparua Counties). The North Canterbury Catchment Board declares that, in respect of any land within the area delineated on Plan M/422/3 Map 1, the disturbance of land surfaces by the removal of soil or by excavation or filling is a practice likely to facilitate soil erosion or floods or cause deposits In watercourses, lakes or the sea. Notwithstanding the above declaration, any occupier may: Disturb the land surface where the change to existing land surface does not exceed 600 mm depth or where no more than 10 cubic metres of . soil Is placed or removed. The Board further declares that In respect of any land within the area delineated on Plan M/422/3 Map 2, the clearing of vegetation is a practice likely to facilitate soil erosion or floods or cause deposits in watercourses, lakes or the sea. Notwithstanding the above declaration, any occupier may: Carry out vegetation clearance within the area delineated on Plan M/422/ 3 Map 2 provided that the area of vegetation clearance carried out In any calendar year does not exceed one hectare. The Board also declares that no person shall engage in either of the foregoing practices In the areas specified In relation to each practice without the prior written consent of the Board. NOTE: “Clearance” includes the cutting, destruction or removal by chemical or mechanical means (Including cultivation) or by burning, and includes the felling or harvesting of wood or timber from woodlots, but excludes grazing by stock and the cutting and harvesting of hay, silage, arable and horticultural crops. “Vegetation” means grass, tussocks, scrub, bush and forest. Unless revoked, this notice will remain in force for two years from January 31, 1986. Penalties are provided for In the Act for any contravention of this notice. This notice is issued by direction of the National .Water and Soli Conservation Authority and confirmed by the Minister of Works and Development. Plan M/422/3 Maps 1 and 2, details of the scope of this notice and procedures to be followed in dealing with applications for consent are available for Inspection at the offices of the North Canterbury Catchment Board, Christchurch City Council, Lyttelton Borough Council, Heathcote and Paparua County Councils and the Christchurch Drainage Poard.
