City Council used no outside help
The Christchurch City Council did not use outside public relations help to prepare its case to the Local Government Commission. The chairman of the council’s policy and finance committee, Cr Matthew Glubb, said that only resources within the council had been used. To pay an outside consultant was seen as “not a proper use of ratepayers’ funds.” Cr Glubb’s comments were prompted by a statement by the executive director of the new Christ-
church Ratepayers’ Protection Committee, Mr Roy Hughes that the City Council had used public relations expertise to promote its case. Mr Hughes said he assumed the council had used public relations expertise in preparing its case. He was happy to withdraw any accidental inference that outside consultants had been used. Mr Hughes is a public relations consultant for the Health and Riccarton councils.
