Jim Lalor has lead of 30 points

After three days of racing on the current West Coast circuit Jim Lalor has Established what appears an unassailable lead on his contemporaries in his bid to earn the first prize of $750 for the leading trainer. The Ashburton trainer goes into the fourth and second-last day of the contest at the Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting at Omoto today with 57 points, 30 more than his nearest rivals. But the battle for the second prize of $250, provided by the CanterburyWestland Owners and Trainers’ Association, should be an interesting contest. Tom Lalor, of Riccarton, and Barbara and Ray Harris, from Tuahiwi, are at present joint runners-up. They each have 27 points. Other still very much in the running for that second prize are Neil Coulbeck, of Amberley, with 24 points, and Helen Preston (Riccarton) and Ray Pankhurst (Orari), whose teams have each earned 22 points.
