Northern gets bogged down
PA Alexandra Northern Districts negotiated the rapids but became becalmed in the shallows in a laboriously-compiled innings of 257 against Otago in the Shell Trophy cricket match which began at Molyneux Park yesterday. Northern was sent in to bat by the Otago captain, Warren Lees, and after being 30 for two and 93 for four, seemed set for a big total during the afternoon. Chris Kuggeleijn, Northern’s captain, and the aggressive Barry Cooper took the attack to Otago while adding 66 for the fifth wicket in only 50 minutes, and it appeared Northern had overcome the worst. But the Northern innings became bogged down after tea and its total of 257 in 400 minutes and 113.1 overs left honours even for the day. NORTHERN DISTRICTS First innings L. M.
