Shot fired accidentally
An air rifle pellet which hit a teen-age girl in the neck near Kaiapoi on Monday evening was fired accidentally from inside a
tent. The girl was hit while rowing on the Cam River about 7.30 p.m. She was not hurt. The police have spoken to two boys, aged 14 and 11, who were playing with the air rifle inside a tent beside the river. They said that the rifle went off accidentally, and the pellet had passed through the wall of the tent before hitting the girl.
