Sub-contractors
The large, spacious supermarket has involved many sub-contractors. Fletcher Development and Construction, Ltd, chose local contractors where possible. The demolition, excavation and site works were carried out by Transport North Canterbury, Ltd. the firm moved on to the site last June. Fletcher Steel supplied the steel, which was put in place by the local firm of Wadey and Efford. Structural Steel work was subcontracted to Plato Steel and the blockwork and brickwork, a feature of the wall facing the Alfred Street side of the building, was done by C. Franzman. Roofing was carried out by Wayman Roofing, and plumbing by G. G. Don.
Drainage works were subcontracted to Hansen Contractors, and fire protection works to A. and T. Burt, who were supported by Wormaid, also suppliers of the fire doors. The roller doors were supplied by Wormaid Metalbilt, and aluminium windows by Peter Stevens, Ltd. The joinery works were carried out by LX Joinery, and the suspended ceilings and gib board was supplied by Angus Industries. Aotea electric did the electrical work, and the painting was done by Robin Driver. Blake Bros did the sealing work, and Hurst and Drake the glazing. The heating and ventilation was done by Thurstons, and the refrigeration by N. 0. Pierson.
