Terrier helps repel attacker

A small terrier came to her mistress’s rescue to fight off a sex attacker who jumped the woman in bush near Eastern beach, police said yesterday.

Police feared the man might attack again, as the track leading to Bucklands Beach was frequently used by children.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Gott said the middleaged woman was walking her dog on the seaside track at 8.45 am on Sunday, when she was grabbed from behind. The man obviously knew the area and had been lying in wait for someone, he

said. The attacker retreated when the woman ordered her dog to go for him. He approached her a second time but ran off as the dog stood between them, growling. The woman was shaken but unhurt, Mr Gott said.
