Applications for grants total $40M
Applications for grants totalling $4O million have been received by the Child and Youth Development Trust, the body responsible for distributing last year’s Telethon proceeds. Mrs Bridget Farrelly, the trust’s executive secretary, said yesterday that 1900 applicants were competing for a share of the $6 million Telethon which was held on June 29 and 30 last year.
She said the process of sorting and considering the applications has scarcely begun, but a priority would be the promotion of child safety and the prevention of child abuse. The trust had been given statistical information to ensure a fair spread of the money throughout the country, and it was hoped distribution could begin in March.
