All Belles retired
PA Rotorua The grand Rotorua racemare, All Belles, the first horse trained at Arawa Park to top $lOO,OOO in stake earnings, has been retired. All Belles had been troubled this season by a worn suspensory ligament in her near foreleg and rather than risk her breaking down the decision was made at the week-end to retire her. The six-year-old Bellissimo mare is owned by Reg Durrant and Mrs Nena Durrant, of Rotorua, and was trained during most of her career by Roger Waller. With her racing career now over, All Belles is on the market and is likely to
attract much interest from breeders. From 56 starts All Belles won 10 races and recorded six seconds, six thirds and three fourths for stake earnings of $132,250. All Belles started racing as a two-year-old and was successful in each of her five seasons of racing. Her most successful season came last term when she won four times, including a success in the group II $60,000 Flag Inns Trophy race at Ellerslie. However, her most memorable win was probably her last, when she scored a thrilling victory in the weight-for-age Clifford Plate on the same course on Boxing Day.
