Australian one-day victory

NZPA-AAP Brisbane Australia defeated India at the Brisbane Cricket Ground yesterday and now leads the one-day triangular international series which includes New Zealand. Sent into bat the strong Indian line-up crumbled in 43 overs to be all out for 161. Australia replied with 164 for six in 46.2 overs. For India, Mohammed Azharuddin (35) and the No. 10, Syed Kirmani (27), made the best contributions after

the innings was wrecked bythe run-outs of Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar and Chetan Sharma. Australia’s best bowlers were Craig McDermott with two for 32 and Steve Waugh two for 46. Australia was struggling at 48 for five, but a 79-run stand for the sixth wicket by Waugh and Greg Matthews saw Australia on to a four wicket victory. Waugh was out for 40 and Matthews, who was named man of the match, remained unconquered on 46.
