Candidates will know fate soon

The anxious wait for most School Certificate and University Entrance candidates will end in a little more than two weeks when results are delivered.

All 329,532 School Certificate papers have been marked and result slips are now being printed. The results will be posted between January 20 and January 24. Candidates in Pacific Islands will receive their results in late January or during February, depending on mail deliveries. The director of administration for the Education Department, Mr Mark Canning, said that collating and sending out the results was a huge exercise. “Moving that amount of paper takes days, not hours,” he said. Some results were destined for places as far away as Peru, Zambia, Greece and Belgium. In these places it was usually the children of New Zealand diplomats and missionaries who sat the examinations.

University Entrance, bursary and scholarship results are due to be posted on January 23.
