The appointee will be responsible for Radiography and Ultrasound examinations on a 50/50 basis and will be required to work on a shift basis, weekend and on-call roster. Repeated efforts to recruit to these posts have not met with success, so alternative options are being considered. The Hawke’s Bay Trust for the Elderly (a group of citizens concerned about the care of the elderly in the district) has offered to assist the hospital in its recruitment efforts, by contributing funds to assist in the training or retraining of a suitable medical specialist. Specifically, funds could be available for a person to travel to the United Kingdom (or to other acceptable posts) to obtain experience in this speciality, for up to two years. This retraining option may interest a general physician in mid career, for example.
