Survey ‘progressing well’

Annual survey work on the Coastal Trader is progressing well, according to the ship’s master, Captain Tony Whiteley. General maintenance work and an engine overhaul is being done while the ship is laid over in Lyttelton. Work is also being done for the Det Norske Veritas certification of class.

Only one or two extra items needed to be done for the certificate because of an overlap with the marine survey, said Captain Whiteley. The Coastal Trader was laid up on December 23 and will start her normal schedule again on January 15. Because the ship worked continually through the year, the only opportunity for big maintenance jobs was while she was laid over, he said. Next Wednesday’s voyage to Auckland will be Captain Whiteley’s first as the ship’s master. He has previously worked on New Zealand Line ships on the Tasman run and on the New Zealand Pacific before starting as the Coastal Trader’s master last week.
