Heart girl told
NZPA-AP San Francisco A teen-age girl who received her boyfriend’s heart after he predicted his own death was told by her father yesterday of the youth’s fate. Raymond Ashlock said that he had told his daughter, Donna, aged 14, that Felipe Garza had died and given his organs for transplant, including his kidneys and eyes. “And I have his heart?” asked Donna, who is recovering and reported in fair to good condition.
“I said, ‘yes, that was what he and his parents wished,’ Mr Ashlock said. “Her expression changed just a little. She seemed accepting and fine,” Mr Ashlock said. Miss Ashlock, who had an enlarged heart, was given Felipe’s heart, a day after he died when a blood vessel burst in his brain. She showed no signs of rejecting her new heart, said a spokeswoman for the Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco, Nancy Millhouse.
