Some wool firms at Napier
PA Napier A strong tone at the first January wool sale in Napier yesterday slackened towards the end of ‘the day, the official report said. It was the first day of a twoday sale with a total offering of 50,562 bales. There were 28,710 bales offered for sale yesterday and the remainder will be sold tomorrow. In the total offering there were 263 bales of scoured wool. The bidding spread was healthy. Principal buyers were Eastern Europe, New Zealand carpet mills and the Middle East, with support from China and the Continent. Wool Board activity was limited. Compared with the last wool sale in Wellington on December 20, fleeces of 34 micron and finer of the best style were in the buyers’ favour and poorer styles were less by 2.5 per cent. The best styles in the micron range, 35-37, were unchanged to barely steady, with the remainder down fully 2.5 per cent. Cotts were down 2.5 per cent Second shear was fully in the buyers’ favour. The market indicator was 474 c clean and 352.83 c greasy. Fine crossbred hogget, 33 micron, 110—125 mm: Average to good 494 to 512. Medium crossbred hogget, 34m, 110— 125 mm: Good 498 to 504; average, to good 485 to 500. Crossbred fleece, 35m, 110— 125 mm: Good 496 to 503; average to good 481-487; average 475 to 483; 37m: Good 497 to 503, average to good 481 to 488; average 475 to 483. Second shear fleece, 37m, 75/100—75/125mm: Good 489 to 497; average to good 475 to 485; average 468 to 477; 37m, 75— 50/lOOmnr Good 481 to 493, average to good 465 to 472.
