C.C.C. school holiday ideas

Have you ever got lost or wanted to work out where you were with a compass? Did you ever wish you could swim gracefully through the water without bumping into other swimmers? How about learning to choreograph dance movements to music, or discover what make-up suits you and how to apply it correctly? All these activities and more will be possible in this year’s holiday activities programme for primary and secondary school students, organised by the Christ-

church City Council. The holiday programme has been organised under the banner of “Summer Times” and will run from January 13 to January 30. Some of the activities for secondary school children include orienteering in North Hagley Park, a dance workshop at the Glasshouse Studio in the Peterborough Centre, synchronised swimming at Queen Elizabeth II Park pool, a Q.E.11 Leisure Centre Day, and a beauty therapy course. Sporting activities include how to sail an Optimist

yacht on Victoria Lake in Hagley Park, coaching outdoor and indoor cricket at the Indoor Cricket Centre, a canoeing course at Q.E.IL, instruction in rockclimbing and abseiling from Rapaki Rock, and tuition in windsurfing at the Estuary. A day of fun at Akaroa is also planned for Wednesday, January 29. Young people will be able to try their hand at snorkelling, kayaking, as well as enjoy swimming and a bush walk. A varied and interesting programme has also been organised for children aged five to 12 years at various

venues in Christchurch. Activities that will be held at Q.E.11, include pavement drawing, pottery lessons, mobile making, diving lessons, pool fun, a leisure concession day, and water polo.

A popular annual event, the pyjama party at Pioneer Stadium, will also be held again this year. A clown workshop will be held at the Arts Centre on Monday, January 27.

Games and a mural collage session will be held at Cowles Stadium. Also included in the programme is a launch trip to Diamond Harbour. For all activities in the holiday programme it is essential that enrolments are received first. For information about times, venues and costs, telephone the council at 791-660, ext. 636.
