N. Canty retains cup
North Canterbury made its fifteenth successful defence of the Canterbury Minor Associations cricket cup when it beat South Canterbury on the first innings at Rangiora yesterday. Having lost its first wicket on the second ball of the match, North Canterbury’s innings on Saturday was based around Hie second wicket partS" of 224 between John :ld and Peter Williams. Masefield’s maiden century for North Canterbury included 18 boundaries and four sixes. Michael Satterthwaite and Hugh Wright bad an unbroken fourth wicket stand of
s with Satterthwaite hitting five f sixes and six fours in his 73. South Canterbury was six t wickets down at tea yesterday t but lost just one wicket in the last session to finish at 219 for t seven. Russel Dennison was ! the mainstay of the innings > with an unbeaten 72. ! Scores: i North Canterbury 368/3 dec. (J. Masefield 139, P. Williams 80, M. Satterthwaite 73 not out, I H.
