Farr 6000 titles

Bob Auton, sailing Izzy, fully stretched to win his first Fan--6000 national championship yachting title on Lyttelton harbour yesterday. The former national Noelex 22 champion, competing for the first time in a Farr 6000 national championship, with his crew, Don Bishop, and Hans Kriesel, had to fight off a strong challenge in the final race from Leighway, skippered by Hugh Dinock, to take the championship by 8.4 points. Leighway was second with 14.4 points, and Blue Movie, skippered by Rob McGregor, finished third with 19 points. The fifth race began yesterday after a delayed start, due to a lack of wind. Blue Movie got the best start of the fleet, and on the beat up to the weather mark was out in front by one minute, as the yachts rounded the mark, ahead of Wotzitsname, skippered by Peter Schellekens. Blue Movie moved a further minute in front of Wotzitsname on the beat into the wind and hung on to head off a good finish from Izzy to win by two minutes 26 seconds. In the final race of the series, Auton got away to a good start and opened up a

seven second lead over Dimock on the beat to the weather mark He increased the lead to 50s rounding the wing mark from Bloodshot, skippered by Trevor Shapland, who moved into second place ahead of Leighway. In the run to the leeward mark, Auton increased the lead to one minute over Bloodshot which moved well clear of the fleet with McGregor moving into third place. On the windward-leeward section, Izzy’s lead was chopped by Blue Movie who finished second, with Leighway third. Results.— Race three (held on Saturday): Leighway (H. Dimock) 1; Blue Movie (R.
