Enterprise leads

PA Wellington After a day of light airs N.Z.I. Enterprise has taken back the lead from Atlantic Privateer in the second leg of the Whitbread round-the-world yacht race. Enterprise’s skipper, Digby Taylor, last evening reported a lead of one-and-a-half miles over Atlantic Privateer with 600 miles to sail to North Cape. He said Enterprise was sailing in 20 knot winds with a boat-speed of 12-14 knots, making approximately 270 miles a day. The racing had reached an almost unbearable pitch, Taylor said. ÜBS Switzerland was third, 110 miles behind, Drum fourth and Lion N.Z., 265 miles behind, fifth. Taylor said that he expected to round North Cape on New Year’s Day.
