Rainbow Warrior propeller on show
PA Auckland The public will be able to get a close view of the propeller from the bombed Rainbow Warrior next week-end. Greenpeace will hold a festival from January 3 to January 5 at Matauri Bay, in Northland, with the propeller as the star attraction. Ihe propeller will be used as a memorial for the ship and ■ dead crewman, Fernando Pereira, and will be sited at the top of Matauri Bay Hill A Greenpeace spokesman, Mr Dover Samuels, said that the idea was to have the memorial overlooking the spot where it was intended to scuttle the Rainbow Warrior.
Mr Samuels said the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Paul Reeves, would be invited to unveil the memorial in July, 1986, a year after the bombing. A dedication ceremony would be held at the same time.
However, the Government is still undecided as to whether a marine inquiry will be held into the bombing and so the' Rainbow Warrior must remain at Auckland in the meantime.
