Pressure to screen Afghanistan film
NZPA Wellington A demonstration to pressure Television New Zealand into screening a documentary about the war in Afghanistan went ahead in Wellington yesterday in spite of news that the documentary would be screened in March. The vigil outside Broadcasting House, which was attended by a small number of people, was also held to mark the sixth anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. It was organised by the Afghanistan Re- 1 fugee Foundation. The national co-ordinator i of the foundation, Mr Barry ! Fisher, said the group was I
delighted to hear that th award-winning document ary, “Front-line Afghanis tan,” would be shown oi TV2 on March 17. One of the aims of th vigil was to persuade TVNI to screen the documentary made by New Zealand jour nalist, Quentin Fogarty. Mr Fisher said, however he questioned a claim bi the controller of pro grammes, Mr Dei Monaghan, that Afghanistar was a notoriously difficul place to get material from. ”We have got other video: about the war,” Mr Fishei said. “Why have they turner those down?”
