Police accept Govt pay assurance
PA Wellington Police negotiators have accepted an assurance that the Government will reconsider its pay offer to the police. Police throughout New Zealand have rejected the Government’s offer of a 5 per cent basic salary adjustment and voted in favour of selective industrial action. The Police Association said yesterday that the Minister of Police, Mrs Hercus, had given an assurance that
the offer would be further considered by the Cabinet at its first meeting next year on January 21. The association said that it had accepted the assurance after a series of communications at a meeting yesterday between Mrs Hercus, the Minister of State Services, Mr Rodger, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ken Thompson, and the police negotiators, Dr Bob Moodie and Mr Graham Butterworth.
